If you wanted to say "they only look cool." You could say, I think, かっこうよく見えるだけです。Or ただかっこうよく見えます。
Note that かっこう actually means something like "style" or "look". かっこういい is "good style" or "cool" and かっこうわるい is "bad style" or "uncool" (but it doesn't sound affected like "uncool" does). If someone asked you, about someone you had seen, どんなかっこうですか？ they would be asking, basically, "How did he/she look?" or "What was he/she wearing?"
You wouldn't normally use ～そう with かっこういい (if you did, by the way, it would be かっこうよさそう) because ～そう means "looks ~" but implies that you can't tell for sure by looking, whereas the kind of coolness implied by かっこういい is usually looks. (Not 100% though. You can say someone is かっこういい based on their actions or even their philosophy. Nobody said languages make sense.)

New bookcases
At work, we're moving into a new building. The new building is small, so I brought my archaeology books home. So I bought new bookcases from IKEA.
I never read these books. I think they look cool*.

I also debate bookshelves/bookcases in English and was thinking bookcases, which is probably wrong (they're just shelves).
